In this book I bring to life my Polish family’s recipe ‘book’. ‘Book’, because it is a tattered collection of hand-written notes, fragments of Polish cookery books, and newspaper clippings. It suffered a fraught journey from Poland to England, via a Siberian concentration camp, Iran and a Polish settlement camp in India. Somehow or other, it made it safely to England, and here I share the recipes and the stories of the people who made them. The collages in this book are made with materials from the original recipe book. I hope to celebrate Polish culture, and give voice and vindication to those living in the UK with Polish heritage.
